Before embarking on your traveling adventures, it is important to do your research. Making yourself aware of what risks lay ahead is crucial. The following pointers should help with your research:

  • What contagious diseases affect the area you are visiting
  • The type of climate you will experience
  • Is the area affected by poisonous animals and their antidotes

Vaccines and medications

Before traveling abroad it is important to get your vaccine shots. These will protect you from diseases such as hepatitis A and B, Yellow Fever and Cholera. Also, make sure to visit a medical clinic before your trip. This will enable your doctor to give you proper injections and prescribe the medicine that is right for you. Be sure to pack Malaria medication and antibiotics as they are important to have with you. Be sure to also pack vitamins and supplements as it is not uncommon for flu to strike during your travels.

Water

When traveling you have to be extra cautious of the water you use. A common occurrence especially when visiting a place with hot weather is the use of ice cube. only use water that is bottled or boiled. Contaminated water is host to millions of disease-causing microorganisms. If you can’t access bottled or boiled water, purify your water. If you know you are visiting such a place carry a portable water filter to purify your water. The taste might be unappealing but for your health’s sake, it is important.

Food

While traveling, stomach upsets and vomiting are some of the most common illnesses. Make sure you only eat food that is well cooked. Look for well made food. Also be on the lookout for under-cooked foods. Eat salads if you trust the source as unwashed lettuce or lettuce prepared in contaminated water will make you sick. Make sure to look for fruits such as bananas, oranges, and mangoes for your vitamins.

Avoid alcohol
