Saving Money Traveling – A Beginners Guide

Traveling is a great expense most people don’t mind making. But your bank account doesn’t usually agree. But what if you really want to go on an adventure and you need a break? If you save right, and you follow some of these basic tips below. Most people don’t know because they haven’t traveled before. But if you follow this guide you should be alright. Whatever you do, be smart. Shop around for deals, think before you spend, and know there is usually always a cheaper alternative, to whatever you’re buying. Here are tips on saving money traveling – a beginners guide.

View the Exchange Rate

To save as much as possible, choose a vacation destination in a country that has a favorable exchange rate. For example, you get less food, drinks, and activities for less money. Many people do not look at this while booking a vacation, while 56 percent indicate that this is important because it helps you save a good sum of money.

Skip out on travel insurance

The one thing you should always have but never need to have. Many people still think: I’m just going on a trip, travel insurance is not necessary. If unexpectedly something goes wrong then the cost will soon be in the hundreds, if not thousands of dollars. Unsubscribe from travel insurance. This can be done nowadays everywhere.

Get smart with your money

That is what saving money traveling is all about. Cash your travel vouchers before you leave. Consult a foreign exchange office on the plane, or at the airport. Even better is your hotel or local cash exchange. Get as much cash as possible in the country where you stay, and use a credit card for all purchases. Never pin and pay in dollars, but always in foreign currency. Check with your bank if they may have a partner in the country of destination. It can take care of costs.

Book Ahead of time

You need to plan on time. Of course, you are excited and want to travel as quickly as possible. And so you book immediately after your first search. Or you skip that completely and book last minute. Don’t do this!

Try to book about two to three months before (at least) to be guaranteed the lowest prices. Especially when it comes to single tickets. Prices fluctuate by four things: competition, supply, demand and oil prices. None of these matters have any influence. What airlines are doing is adjusting prices up and down two to three months before departure. So, be active and make sure you browse with incognito, or without cookies, if you search the web for successive days. Sites that visit often will adjust prices upwards. And compare between different airline sites regularly. Booking costs vary and sometimes, one site deals with a particular airline that the don’t have.  Booking a flight and a hotel often gives you a package discount. These packages can be a good deal for a holiday, sometimes up to $200 off. With some travel providers, you can also get a discount if you book via an app, so take a look at it.

Don’t always trust your travel guides

By visiting restaurants listed in your travel guide or tourist attraction squads, you pay too much for food. Instead, browse the internet to crowdsourcing sites with fair reviews about places to eat and eat well. It’s one of the easiest ways saving money traveling.

Ask the restaurant for proper tips

Even if you think smart and ask local people, “Where can we eat here,” you might make an error. A local will quickly pick up a restaurant where he or she knows that there are more tourists. Don’t ask where to eat, but where the locals eat. So ask: “Where do you eat?” And you end up in more unique and cheaper places.

Consult the local tourist office

They can provide advice on current activities, festivals, and tips on sights that you will not find in the most common guides. Don’t be too cool and independent. Visiting a tourist point of arrival gives you a lot of information that may come in handy. And it saves money!

Call directly to a hotel for better rates

Big booking sites get a percentage of the sales they generate. This means that hotels on any discount site will still lose money online. Perhaps they would like to negotiate with you without an intermediary? Call the hotel and ask if they can offer a lower price than stated online. Questions you don’t ask won’t be answered. The same principle applies as for the airline tickets.

Consult the knowledge of hostels

Hostels are nice, cheap, and social for any traveler. Saving money traveling couldn’t be easier than this. However, they’re not for everyone. But by ignoring them entirely, you miss the opportunity to meet staff who have the task of allowing tourists to participate relatively well in activities. Even if you don’t stay in a hostel, it is advisable to walk in and out of and ask for advice about affordable restaurants, tour operators, and activities. If these things exist, they will know.

Save air miles!

You can save money through air miles. If you spend daily on credit card purchases but don’t save air miles, you leave money on the table. Make sure all your expenses are tracked through a savings card. Various credit card companies such as American Express offer such a incentives.

Buy a tourist card

If you visit a lot of monuments and tourist attractions, you will have to pay a fortune at the entrance. That’s money you can spend on other things. Several big cities offer a tourist pass. You can buy them at the local tourist offices and pay one price for one ticket for all city highlights. Often a visitor pass offers discounts at restaurants and public transportation.
