One of the basic things to do is planning ahead. Indeed, most people take this for granted and yet careful planning is needed in selecting the best things to pack. In order to make this task easy, start by creating a checklist. This relieves you from the stress associated with last minute packing. It also helps you to keep track of what you have already packed. All you need to do is mark off each item so that you don’t forget your selected items. Below are some tips on the best things to pack for a trip, especially when traveling abroad.

Vital Documentation

Never forget to pack the documents needed for your travel. Our #1 for Travel Packing Essentials – Traveling Checklist. This can cripple a trip. Double-check to make sure that your passport, airline ticket, personal identification, school id, insurance, medical documents, prescriptions and any other relevant documents are safely packed. Sometimes, it’s important to make copies of your documents and leave behind with a trusted person as a backup.

There are tales of those who reach the airport and realize that their passports are missing. Make sure you don’t forget to carry you passport, drivers’ license, vaccination certificate, maps, guide books and insurance documents. They will come in handy when you are stuck. You might want to write and note down some things along the way- so pack a book and pen too.

Toiletries

Keep your toiletry bag light and TSA-compliant. Put all of your liquids, gels, aerosols, creams, and pastes in a 100ml container (or smaller). And then get them into a clear bag for convenience. Check TSA rules to make it even easier. Make sure you have your toothbrush, toothpaste, mouthwash, brush, comb, hair ties, deodorant, soap, razor, shaving cream, sunscreen, face wipes,  personal hygiene, mirror, prescription meds, lip palm, and ladies, don’t forget any other extra needs.

Safety Kit

If you need to carry your meds, consult with the embassy/consulate of the country you are visiting to make sure the meds you intend to carry are allowed in the country. Most countries accept prescription medications if they are accompanied with a genuine prescription and certified letter from your doctor.  Pack them that they are easily accessible when going through security at the airport. Some airlines place restrictions on health items you can carry. For instance, you may not be allowed to carry your full bottle liquids/creams so you will have to transfer a little amount into smaller containers to carry these aboard.

Besides your prescription meds, it’s important to carry a first aid kit as well. You never know you can get hurt while traveling so a first aid kit will come handy. Again, know the region you are visiting. For instance, if you are traveling to malaria endemic regions, you may have to take prophylactic medication several weeks before traveling. You will also need to pack malaria tablets.

Clothing

Well, the choice of clothing depends on the individual. And where you’re going, it’s climate, temperature, etc However, make sure that you pack enough if you don’t have the time to wash. Pack light! T-shirts and pants you can easily roll up or fold. Also, pack clothing for both cooler and warmer days and some waterproof clothing in case it rains. Additionally, ensure you pack casual shoes and thick shoes to shield you from extreme cold weather. Bring lightweight stuff that you can bundle or layer. Comfortable sweater. Pants to reuse, shorts (trunks and casual) belt, socks, plenty of underwear, pajamas, sunglasses, jewelry (or leave it at home safe), hat/visor, beanie,

Technology

Of course, you’re going to bring your cell phone or mobile devices. But what about a backup? Sim card for the country you’re traveling? Batteries and chargers often get left behind, make sure you get those. Instructions for anything you’re not sure how to replace or fix. Headphones that are high quality. And an extra set. Phones have pretty good quality now, but an actual camera or video recorder is nice sometimes, especially on memory. Also, electrical converters when traveling outside the country. They get expensive sometimes, but you can always ask your hotel lobby, many give them out for free.

Comfort Items

Travel Packing Essentials – Traveling Checklist wouldn’t be complete without the luxury items. These are the things you wish you had thought about while boarding the plane. Like a blanket, or a travel pillow that goes around your neck. Or the book you were reading but forgot to back. Magazines, pens, paper, cards, Kindle, games, cards, translator. More pens. Pencils. iPod, video games, etc.

Others

These items are not absolutely needed but nonetheless, they are still amongst the best things to pack for a trip. You might have to carry your mobile phone and accessories like headsets and chargers. A flash lamp might also be vital when traveling at night so pack it too if space allows. Books and magazines are always nice. Canteen/Water bottle always comes in handy also.

Planning a trip can be somewhat difficult. However, if you know the best things to pack it makes it much easier to enjoy. We hope the Travel Packing Essentials – Traveling Checklist helps you on your journey.
