Try and avoid flying into LAX

Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) is considered to be one of the worst airports in the world. It’s prone to delays, busy, hectic and confusing. Consider flying into Burbank (BUR), Orange County’s John Wayne Airport (SNA) or Long Beach (LGB) instead.

Don’t Underestimate Distance

Los Angeles is huge! It is also a VERY car orientated city and public transport is terrible. Distances often take a lot longer to travel, largely due to traffic, as well as poor public transport. Don’t make the mistake of taking the bus from Hollywood to Santa Monica – though it seems straight forward, you will spend several hours on the bus!

The Metro is great but it doesn’t get you everywhere

The Metro is a great way to get around some of the city, though unfortunately, it won’t get you everywhere. You will need to buy a metro card to top up and use for all rides on the public transport system. Once you’re armed with this, you’ll be able to travel throughout the city. Just allow enough time to get from a to b.

Rent a bike

Rent a bike and cycle along the Coast from Venice to Santa Monica – or further! There is an awesome coastal cycle path that goes right along the LA coast. It’s cheap, it’s scenic, it’s relaxing (for LA standards) and it’s definitely an LA highlight.

Research Before Your Trip

Have an idea of what you want to see before arriving and mark it on a map and work. LA offers several different multi-attraction passes, which will save you a ton of money – if, you are planning on visiting a lot of attractions. Also be aware, that though LA has plenty of paid attractions, some of the best attractions in LA are free!
